History :
This French aircraft was based on a pre-war type, the Loire-Nieuport LN-401 dive bomber. Unlike the previous type, it had a newly shaped wing, which was already straight and also had a smaller span. The aircraft was also fitted with a new engine, a 12-cylinder Hispano-Suiza 12Y-51, the engine had an output of 1,100 hp. The prototype was first flown on 24 August 1945. At the time of its creation, the aircraft was already considerably outdated and its performance was insufficient, so the only prototype produced was scrapped in 1947.
The Loire-Nieuport LN-42 was a single-seat, single-plane dive bomber of all-metal construction. The landing gear was retractable, with the main landing gear legs retracting into the wings. After retraction, the landing gear leg was covered by an aerodynamic cover that slightly improved the aerodynamics of the machine. The aircraft was powered by an inline twelve-cylinder Hispano-Suiza 12Y-51 engine, the engine was fitted with a Szydlowski turbocharger, and its power was 1,100 hp. The engine drove a three-bladed adjustable propeller. The aircraft reached a top speed of 430 km/h and cruise speed was 365 km/h. The armament consisted of a Hispano-Suiza HS-404 20 mm calibre cannon, which fired through a hollow shaft propeller, and two Darne 7.5 mm calibre machine guns, mounted in the wing. The aircraft carried a load of 500 kg of bombs.
