The author's recollections of his time in the USAF. The story describes his experiences from volunteer enlistment in the army, through training in the USA, combat deployment in Britain, capture and "residency" in Stalag 17-B to liberation by General Patton's 3rd Army. Matheny was assigned to the crew of a B-17 as a deck mechanic and gunner from the upper gunnery range, so the book provides (among other things) an interesting account of the activities in the line of duty in these capacities. An account of his recollections of his captivity also provides interesting reading. For me a very beneficial read.
