Karel ČURDA was born 10.10.1911 in Nová Hlína near Třeboň (Jindřichův Hradec district). In the years 1933-1935 he performed military full-time service, staying in the army as a longer-serving non-commissioned officer. In June 1939 he went to Poland, on 2 August he was transferred to the Foreign Legion, on 26 September 1939 he was presented to the Czechoslovak Foreign Army in France, where he served in the 10th Company of the 1st Infantry Regiment. On 1.1.1940 he was promoted to sergeant. After the end of the French campaign, he arrived in England on 7 July 1940 on the ship Mohamed el Kebir, where he was assigned to a motor company. He volunteered for special duties in the rear of the enemy, passing all courses from September 1941 to March 1942, most recently STS 2 at Bellasis near Dorking. He was unpopular among his own, partly because of his public regret at going abroad and his relationship with alcohol and unreliability... Despite this, he flew into action as part of Operation Out Distance on the night of 27-28 March 1942 under the false name Karel Vrbas.

After the assassination of Heydrich, he volunteered for the Gestapo and later became a very dangerous confederate. He was the mastermind behind the disclosure of the paratroopers' hideout in the Church of Cyril and Methodius in Prague, for which he received a financial reward of 5 million crowns. Later he applied for Reich citizenship, on 21.2.1944 he married a German woman Maria Bauer with whom he had a son Karl and changed his name to Jerhot. In March 1943 he was involved in the identification of the dead bodies of paratroopers from the Bronse and Iridium groups. He is actively searching for members of the Antimony group and was instrumental in the capture of paratrooper František Pospíšil of the Bivouac group.

After the war, he was arrested and convicted of treason on 15 May 1945. He was blamed for the fact that 254 Czech people were murdered by the Germans at the time of the threat to the republic. On 29 April 1947 at 11.57 a.m. at Pankrác, he was deservedly executed with a rope.

Leaving aside the fact that no source is given, I have little doubt that : "from September 1941 to March 1942 he passed all courses" without stating what "all courses" is, according to the tribal list he passed from 19.9. 41 basic sabotage course at STS 26 in Scotland (1 month), followed by another course in parachute jumping (STS 51 in Ringway) lasting 1 week, followed by a third course, this time at the Czechoslovak station STS 2 in Bellasis, he passed this one in January 42, there is no more listed for him and therefore it can hardly be said that he passed "all" courses, in reality they were basic courses (missing e.g. radio operator, continuation of sabotage, intelligence...) there were quite a lot of courses and this is basically the minimum necessary, he was probably in a hurry or did not have significantly good results.
To clarify his service in the army, he was conscripted on 19.4.1933, he started his service on 1.11.1933, he served with the 29th Infantry Regiment in J. Hradec, specifically with its 12th Company (III. Battalion) which was stationed with a detached battalion in Trebon, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 1.11.1934 , he was promoted to corporal on 15.10.1935 and transferred to the 10th company of the same regiment, followed by a transfer to further service on 1.11.1935, after a month he was paid a bonus of 400,- CZK, 15.4.4.1936 he was transferred to the 7th Company, 1.9.1936 he was promoted to sergeant (this is somewhat omitted in the previous post) 1.11.1937 followed by an extension of further service for another year and the award of another premium of 400,- CZK, 8.6.1938 the rest of his obligation is waived due to the transfer to the Financial Guard, followed by a short intermezzo in the Foreign Legion and 26.9.1939 he is presented to the CS group in Agde.
Interestingly, on 7.3,1944 he is awarded the "Commemorative Medal".
On 15.5.1945 he presented himself at the special group of the MNO (apparently he did not know that his betrayal was known).
