Po vylíčení let 1918–29 ve 2. dílu tentokrát historik prof. Z. Kárník předkládá pestrý obraz politických a hospodářských dějin i běžného života v národnostně pestrém Československu zasaženém celosvětovou krizí a poté nástupem nacismu. V redakci už je i závěrečný svazek, který spolu s vylíčením let 1937–38 zahrne i přílohy a jmenný rejstřík spojující celé dílo.
