He was born 14. February 1919 in Gazeley near Newmarket.
Fly has learned during his studies at the university of Leeds. After the outbreak of war joined the RAF, he underwent fighter training and in April 1941 was sent to the 72. squadron. With her hit in battles over occupied Europe. The first victory gained 10. August, when he damaged one Bf 109 F. Successful was also 12. February 1942, when he participated in the failed British attempt to thwart the operation Cerberus, thus the penetration of the German ships from Brest through the channel to Germany, and shot down one Fw 190 and two others damaged.
In march 1942 becoming the commander of the squadron in the 602. squadron and in April it awarded him the DFC. Their last victory won on the Spitfire Mk.VB AR454 19. August 1942 during the landings at Dieppe, where he shot down one 217 and damaged the fighter Fw 190. His score is then stopped on the number 5-2-8 victory.
Then until November 1942 he flew with Spitfires Mk.VI, whose task was to protect the harbour of Scapa Flow. Followed by trip to the USA.
After the return command in October 1943, shortly 234. squadron, but then is sent to Australia, where he becomes commander of the 549. squadron Spitfires. 27. November 1944 he led his squadron in operations, which was the longest in the operating service of the Spitfires when they provided escorts for american bombers B-25, the purpose of which was to Timor in the Dutch East Indies.
After the end of hostilities he returned to England and became an instructor. He died 13. September 1943 in the crash of the aeroplane Meteor EE490 in Scarborough.
