Development
In the request for the maximum safety of the crew and transported the away team in armored vehicles, and increase the ability to survive on a contemporary battlefield, the division of the ground systems of the company IMI (Land Systems division, Israel Military Industries - IMI) and the firm Rafael have developed a lightweight set of armour vehicles - the L-VAS (Light Vehicle Armour System). This is intended for fastening on different models of the american armored transprotéru M113. It was to Israel delivered more than 5,500 units. The project improved transporéru M113 with a caulking L-VAS has been dubbed the Bazelet.

Description
System L-VAS uses a hybrid technology of ballistic armor, to provide protection from soviet / Russian men RPG-7, with a simple průpalnou warhead (High Explosive Anti-Tank - HEAT). Then against penetrating bullets (Armor Piercing - AP) caliber 14.5 to 20 mm and against fragments from grenades to the caliber of 152 mm or 155 mm. Also PTRK 9K11 Maljutka (AT-3 more suitable) no longer constitute such a danger, as for the standard carriers M113.

L-VAS are actually just modules auxiliary armour, mounted on the front and sides of the vehicle. They consist of layers of steel, rubber and ceramics, but also include explosive reactive armour ERA. Mention is also of the ingestion of a completely new armour (developed by the IMI), which is called the IRA (Insensitive Reaction Armor). Each module can withstand multiple intervention 14.5 mm and 20 mm armor-piercing bullets or the explosion of the warhead of the HEAT. If necessary, can be easily replaced by two men (or women) for a few minutes. The kit also includes a significant adjustment of the floor machines, which is achieved by increasing the resistance against explosive traps.

The weight of the protective putty L-VAS is around 2 tons (another source uvádi up 3.25 tons), which is a number that somehow fundamentally armored transporter does not detract from his mobility.

Vehicles are before the conversion adjusted to a standard M113A3. You have the most powerful engine of the series M113 (and about 275 horses) and further modified running gear, which better tolerate the increased weight of the whole machine. Then follows the setup already described sets of armour.

Armament
The transporter carries in the basic configuration (i.e. M113 and its improved version of the A1, A2, A3) only gun M2 (in a calibre of 12,7 mm). Installation kits L-VAS does not restrict its use (depending on the purpose). But when shooting from this gun is a shooter exposed to the dangers of intervention, because there is nothing to cover. Even so, it will be his main weapon (and i guess probably the only one), then in addition to the weapons of the crew and transported the away team, but in proper adjustment. This is a system of OWS (Overhead Weapon Station) with a machine gun M2HQCB (caliber 12.7 mm), which is remotely controlled from the safety of inside the vehicle (with day and night mode). At the fairs, where the project was Bazelet (M113 L-VAS) introduced, was exhibited together with the OWS 12.7 mm. This system can be according to the wishes mistaken for a system of OWS 7.62 mm, machine gun FN MAG/M240 (7.62 mm), but maybe is the configuration with the "bunker" Nagman or Kasman (the ones they themselves have guns, or gun ports), which are known mainly from the transporters Zelda.

Conclusion
The planned price for one kit of the L-VAS for the transporter M113 is about 75,000 $. Israeli army for now, she made a request for 100 sets of L-VAS, for your M113 compression rate. Although the things suggests that should the order in the future even expand ( IDF operates over 5,000 transporters M113). And that's because these kyty are affordable and operationally effective, and it looks like they are the excellent response of the Israeli army on the question about the vulnerability of existing armored personnel carriers.
