HMS Rapana
The lead ship of the eponymous class of escort aircraft carriers, incurred by the extension of the flight deck, the island and a miniature of the hangar, over hull tankers. The ships remained of the original capacity to transport liquid fuels and in addition, added the ability to the protection of convoys, anti-submarine patrols and anti-aircraft protection or transport aircraft - albeit to a limited extent.
Fleet accounted for usually 4 aircraft Fairey Swordfish.
Class ships Rapana served in the atlantic convoys.
Other ships in this class were Ancylus, Acavus, Amastra, Alexia, Miralda and Adula.
All ships of the class survived the war and after it were converted back to tankers.
