He was born 10. November 1918 in Teignmouth in Devon. He graduated from the Royla Military College in Camberley and in April was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieuenant and until October 1935, when he joined the RAF, served in the army in Yorkshire. In April of 1935 in addition underwent in Bristol, civilian pilot training.
The RAF was adopted at four years and a military pilot training completed in January 1936. In November he was sent to the 56. squadron, from that in July 1939 he moved to 1. squadron, where he became a squadron commander*). In September 1939 he led his men into France and there received 23. November share in the downing of He 111 (F6+FK) of 2.(F)/122.

Then volunteered into the service at the Merchant Ship Fighter Unit, i.e. the unit, which was equipped with Hurricanes modified for launch from the catapults of the trade ships that should protect them from attacks Fw 200. With this unit he served Plinston to 6. April, 1942, when he was sent to north Africa. He briefly worked at the headquarters of the 239. wing, after the u 3. squadron RAAF and 250. squadron which flew Kittyhawky and won their last two victories. First 2. October shot down one Bf 109 and 17. November eliminate one Ju 52. Gained so a total of 6+2-0-0 victory.
At the end of November he is promoted to Squadron Leader and taking command of the 601. squadronou, in which he remained until march 1943. In the same month he was awarded the DFC.
It is then sent to the headquarters of the RAF for the Middle east, but already after a month is sent to the unit, which přelétávala aircraft to the units. This activity dealt with until February 1945, when he was transferred to the headquarters of the transport of the air force. In October 1945 he left the RAF.

*) had the rank of Acting F/Lt – it was only borrowed and Plinston had the task to lead the pilots of the squadron in the air, the second officer with the rank of F/Lt took care of administrative running of the squadron and was its de facto commander, to the sorties but did not intervene.
