Somua 35 in Bulgarian army
The use of French Somua 35 tanks in the Bulgarian army has not yet been clarified. The whole history of their inclusion is related to the Bulgarian request for the delivery of 25 light tanks Pz.Kpfw. I intended for the training of Bulgarian tankers. However, this request was made in 1943 when the production of these tanks was a thing of the past (there are a couple of secret letters with this request to the German side). The German side, which at that time could only supply four tanks Pz.Kpfw. I and therefore proposed to the Bulgarian side to supply French tanks Hotchkiss 39 (19 pcs) and Somua 35 (6 pcs). However, this alternative was long rejected by the Bulgarian side after the bad experience with the Renault 35 tanks delivered. There was also a request for alternative delivery of additional tanks Pz.Kpfw. IV, but neither of these plans seems to have been fulfilled.
In the future, it may be possible to clarify whether the Somua 35 appeared in the hands of the Bulgarian Army, or in the more likely version, that these tanks may have been received by the Bulgarian Gendarmerie (as the Hotchkiss 39 was received by the Bulgarian Gendarmerie).

Somua 35 in the Italian army
On 30.12.1940 and 31.12.1940 Italy officially requested the German side to supply tanks and heavy trucks. It was interested in captured French Somua 35 tanks in the number of 50 pieces. The German side, which also wanted to use the captured French equipment, supplied only 32 tanks of this type in various states of repair. These tanks became part of the newly formed 31° Reggimento Carri (31st Tank Regiment) in Persano, Campania, from 27 June 1941. These tanks were included in the "CC Battaglione Carri SOMUA" battalion, which complemented a pair of battalions within the regiment armed with French Renault 35 tanks. Originally the regiment was to move to Tunisia, but due to the unfavourable military situation it did not make it there. Consequently, the "CC Battaglione Carri SOMUA" battalion was detached from the regiment and moved to Sardinia, where it remained without any deployment until 1944, when it was disbanded. Not much is known about the tanks and their fate. The source states that most were probably returned to the French, except perhaps for a couple of tanks that ended up in Naples after the war in 1946, where they were most certainly scrapped.
