Velitelství letecké divise vzniklo 5. ledna 1946 přejmenováním z velitelství 311. bombardovací peruti zahraničního vojska [1940-1946] na základě výnosu Ministerstva národní obrany, čj. 700/Taj.-hl.št./4.odděl.1945, od svého vzniku užívalo krycího označení VÚ 8948. Nacházelo se v Havlíčkově Brodě, podléhalo Velitelství letectva 2. oblasti [1945-1947] a od srpna 1947 velitelství II. leteckého sboru [1947-1949], mělo charakter vyššího velitelství s úplnou velitelskou působností.


Velitelství letecké divise bylo . dubna 1948, na základě výnosu Ministerstva národní obrany, čj., zrušeno.


Velitelem letecké divise byl:
podplukovník letectva, od května 1946 plukovník letectva Josef Šnajdr (leden 1946 - duben 1948).

DD.03.1947 - the bombing of the ice dams on the Danube.
02.08.1947 - president of the republic awarded the battalion 311. squadron.
10.04.1948 - ordered to complete rámcování division headquarters, thus the unit of de facto ceases to exist.
