Regiment no 72 was set up in the Komárno of the day 1. February 1860 on the basis of the supreme the decision from 27. December 1859 as an ordinary infantry regiment. Compiled was from the 2. and 3. battalion of an ordinary infantry regiment of the grand master of the teutonic knights no 4 and 2. battalion of an ordinary infantry regiment Ajroldiho no 23. This regiment, however, due to the the events of the previous year came on the team from the lombardy region. Missing the team, therefore, was supplemented from the depotního battalion already mentioned, the ordinary infantry regiment no. 4.

In the year 1864 the regiment under the Gablenzova 6. college, respectively, the brigade Dormusovy (later Kalikovy) attended campaign of Schleswig and Holstein. However, the fighting as well, only surrounded the walled city of Friedericia. In 1866 he was in the course of the prussian-austrian war part of 1. the army corps North army. With him he fought at the Munich Hradiste, Jičín and Hradec Králové. The exception was 4. battalion, which was deployed as a crew in the Joseph. In 1878 it belonged to a regiment among the occupying forces, but no major clashes were not present. In 1883 it was used by one of the battalions of the regiment to create infantry regiment no. 102.
