The command post is designed for automated control of weapon systems of air defense units of small and short range while driving and from the site. It is designed to control and command the battery and as part of other automated command systems.
The command post is located on the chassis of the armored personnel carrier BTR-80 (GAZ-5903).

Basic features:
The command post is designed to control the firing of anti-aircraft batteries:
- 9K35M2 Strela-10M2 and 9K35M3 Strela-10M3 - max. 6 vehicles, data radio communication data transmission
- ZSU-23-4 - max. 4 vehicles, data line data transmission
- 9K33 OSA-AK - max. 4 vehicles, data line data transmission
- 9K38 Igla (MANPAD) - max. 6, radiocommunication data transmission
- 9K330 Tor-M1 - max. 6 vehicles, data radiocommunication data transmission
- 9K22 Tunguska-M1 - max. 6 vehicles, data radiocommunication data transmission


The PU-12M7 command post is capable of simultaneously receiving primary radar information (analogue) from a single radar, secondary radar information (AWACS, radar and automated command systems with digital information output) from three sources and receiving 99 targets simultaneously. The number of objectives simultaneously pursued and allocated is 9.
Targets are displayed at a distance of up to 100 km in the distance, 25000 m in height and with a speed of up to 787 m/s.
The range of radio data transmission is up to 40 km, data line transmission up to 15 km.
