"Army heavy bomber Type 93"

History:
• Rikugun Koku Hombu had the opportunity to try in Manchuria jednoplošný bomber Junkers To.37. This bomber was made by the Swedish filiálkou Junkerse and the japanese army air forces acquired it as a gift from a sponsor in February 1931. The aircraft had proved itself and so command of the air force sent in April of the year 1932 of the volkswagen group Mitsubishi Jukugyo To.To. specification for a heavy bomber aircraft, which had carried away 1 000 kg blowing up the cargo and for the price of a reduced stock of fuel, it should be up to 1 500 kg. In the specifications it was more of the requirements, some of which have been in the japanese air force, completely new. The possibility of an emergency flight on one engine, several independent fuel tanks, the fuel system should ensure the supply of fuel even when through by his few tanks, or fill the ear canal, which could the crew in flight communicate. No less interesting requirement was the easy option to transport the aircraft by rail, in addition to another was also a fixed date of delivery prototypes - march 1933.
• A design team under the direction of the engineer Nabushira Nakaty under the military supervision of the kpt.Komamury suggested a slightly larger copy of the Junkersova To 37. Jukersovy all-metal aircraft construction at that time were in favour of, the development of its military aircraft took place in Japan, because Germany was such a development after the lost world war banned. The japanese air force has requested all-metal bomber and the Junkers of such machines had, although officially, as a civilian, but just the development in other countries gave their version of the military.
• A newly designed four-seat low wing aircraft, although he looked considerably bojechtivě, but already the first take-off has brought disappointment. For example, in the specifications of the required maximum speed of the airplane failed to achieve, the flight on one engine was almost impossible for a large force on the management of the aircraft. Command of the air force, oddly enough neither neprotestovalo and although the tests were not yet completed, was the prototype accepted into the arms of as: "Army heavy bomber Type 93". In the system Kitai has been marked as Ki-1-I. By the end of 1933 the factory of Mitsubishi has supplied fourteen of the aircraft.
• The flight characteristics were not even a little bit good, the pilots grappled with the controls. The bomber was unnecessarily large, thus the clumsy and heavy. The only praise you perhaps deserved the ear canal, which really allowed the communication of the two pilots and a bombardier who sat in a separate cabin. The designers have tried to address the deficiencies, the engines have been stored below and were exchanged for japanese type Ha-2-II. Aerodynamic modifications (the replacement of certain corrugated metal sheets smooth duralovými panels) to permit even a slight increase in performance, but the popularity of this new version Ki-1-II remained very small.
• Combat deployment to both versions were on the battlefield in China and in Manchuria, replaced the outdated and also not very popular bombers Kawasaki Type 87. In the first line were Ki-1 are used still at the end of the thirties, but it has already been hopelessly out of date...
