The first Sparviero-class ship. It was built as a prototype in international cooperation with the USA. However, the Americans were interested in a larger vessel, so they developed their own class Pegasus. The Italians began building 6 more 6 years later. Because of this delay, the other vessels are sometimes referred to as the Nibbio class.
