Amphibious Floating Bridge and Ferry System
A brief history
Design Office Research & amp; The Development Establishment (Engineers), part of the Defense Research and Development Organization, has developed an engineering vehicle for the Indian military - a self-propelled pontoon bridge. The public was able to get acquainted with this vehicle at the DEFExpo 2004 exhibition and at the military parade in New Delhi on January 26, 2006.
Basic data
- project and prototype name: Amphibious Floating Bridge and Ferry System
- project and prototype abbreviation: AFFS
Dimensions
- combat weight: 42 Mg (tons)
- marching length: 10 m
- length of the developed bridge: 28.4 m
- marching width:? m
- width of the bridge road: 3.6 m
- marching height: 4 m
Chassis
- layout: 4x4
- central tire inflation: yes
Navigation
water meters:
Performances
- max speed: 55 km/h
- in the field: up to 40 km/h
- cruising speed: up to 9.72 km/h (2.7 m/sec.)
- Front and rear ramp layout of the vehicle: up to 9 minutes
- assembly of a pontoon bridge from several vehicles: within 30 minutes
Auxiliary floats
- number of external: 6
- number of internal: 2
The vehicle's eight auxiliary floats are inflated to 1.08 MPa (1.1 bar). The overpressure is provided by an air pump with a capacity of 20 m3 per minute. Float overpressure control is automated.
