Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausf. D1
Command tank using the design of the standard PzKpfw.III Ausf.D. However, it was a more significant modification of the hull and turret, where their frontal and side armour thickness was increased up to 30mm (compared to the standard maximum thickness of Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.D 14.5 - 16mm). The gun was removed from the turret and a wooden-metal dummy was fitted instead. The defensive armament consisted of a MG 34 machine gun in the turret. An interesting feature is the use of a 20-tooth drive wheel, the standard Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.D had a 21-tooth drive wheel. The original original designation of this command tank was Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.A, later changed to Pz.Bef.Wg.Ausf.D1.
