The first mention of the use of the platformLa.S. (Pz.Kpfw.I)for the purpose of developing a command radio vehicle was presented at a meeting ofMaj. Phillipsa(ChiefWaPrüf 6) with representatives of Krupp on 2.3.1934. At the meeting, a request was made for the installation of a more powerful electric generator with a power of 600 W, which was to have sufficient power to supply radio equipment with electricity.
In 1935, in response to the need to coordinate the actions of tank units, a project of a specialized command tank was created.
Because the standardPz.Kpfw.I Ausf.Adid not work for the installation of large radio stations, a modified version was developed. The machine had an elevated fixed superstructure, the tower was eliminated and replaced by a fixed superstructure. The machine was armed only with the crew's personal weapons. It was equipped with a radio station. The foldable rod antenna was tilted into the guide and protective frame structure on the right fender during the transfer. The maximum armor thickness was 13 mm. The crew consisted of 2-3 men (?).
It is stated that on the chassis2.Serie/La.S. (Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.A)was built in the companyDaimler-Benz15 pieces of machines. The machines were completed just at the time of the first tactical maneuvers of German armored units taking place on 18-30 August 1935 inMunsteri. The machines were classified inI.andII. Abteilung/Kraftfahrlehrkommando ZossenaI. Abteilung/Kraftfahrlehrkommando Ohrdruf.

The program of command vehicles has developed into a similar design on chassisPz.Kpfw.I Ausf.Bunder the namekleine Panzerbefehlspanzerwagen (Sd.Kfz.265).
