During the Second World War, a project of ammunition of medium ballistic performance was created in Zbrojovka Brno. These were cartridges 7 mm Rapid and 8 mm Rapid.
The Kouckí brothers developed an automatic carbine ZK 412 for the 8 mm Rapid cartridge.
The development was commissioned by the main office of the Waffen SS (SS-Führungshaptamt) sometime in early 1942 and was monitored and managed by the liaison staff of the SS Weapons at Škoda Works and Zbrojovka Brno. The weapon bore the designation MK SS 42 (not to be confused with MP SS 42 - ZK 403, which developed in parallel).
The weapon worked on the principle of dust collection, the weapon fires from an open breech, similar to submachine guns for pistol ammunition and does not have the possibility of firing single shots. The magazine had a double-row outlet and its capacity was probably 30 rounds. The sight is adjustable from 100-300 meters. Due to the fact that the weapon is a sample piece, it is largely made by precise chip machining, pressed parts would be a matter of mass production.
The only surviving specimen is in the Historical Institute of the Czech Armed Forces. More information on the development and testing of this weapon is missing.
