This vehicle in the picture - with the antenna dipole cover on the side, is a course beacon - KRM-5.
It is the distinguishing mark of both vehicles.
There is a complete instrumentation inside the vehicles (1x backup) and in case of parameter deviation or failure during operation of the transmitter, it will automatically switch to backup.
Each vehicle also has a GAZ-704 trailer with a pair of AB-2-T/230M1 generators.

Landing Radio Beacons PRMG-5
This type of radio beacons is designed to guide aircraft equipped with RSBN on-board equipment to land in Category I weather conditions. The PRMG-5 system produces equi-signal zones that determine the exact position of the aircraft in the heading and descent planes. The position of the aircraft in these planes is indicated by the on-board NPP indicator ('cross instrument').
*** By way of introduction "a little history": The 1st Soviet system of precision landing radio beacons, which also began to be used in our Air Force to provide instrument landing of Il-28 and Il-14 aircraft, was at Prerov and Mladá (1955) were planted the type PRMG-2, working in the band 100 to 300 MHz and in Mosnov (1960) the whole set - the so-called MATERIK with the radio rangefinder RD-2. It consisted of: - course radio beacon (KRM-2) = Localizer (LLZ), - Descending radio beacon (GRM-2) = Glide Path-beacon (GP), - two signal beacons (Marker) and is usually supplemented by a radio range finder repeater (RD-2) = Distance Measuring Equipment (DME).
Since 1974, a more modern type PRMG-4 KM was used.
From 1981, the PRMG-5 type was introduced and most military airfields were equipped with it.
Apart from some design changes (e.g. the use of semiconductors, there are 2 equivalent sets in each of the beacons for 100% backup, mobile fitment to small vans UAZ-452AE. ***
The PRMG-5 system consisted of: 2 cars UAZ-452AE with trailers GAZ-704:
1. Automobile UAZ-452AE - KRM and RD: 1.a) 2 sets of KRM-5 (course radio beacon / /Курсовой Радио Маяк = Localizer) with antenna system (10 elements on the side of the car) - operating at a frequency of 905.1 - 932.4 MHz; - transmitter power 8 W - range 45 km - located 500 - 1200 m behind the end of the VPD in its extended axis
1.b) rangefinder repeater RD (Ретранслятор Дальномера = Distance Measuring Equipment) with antenna system (4 elements ) - operated at a frequency of 939.6 - 966.9 MHz - the distance interrogation channel at 772 MHz - the distance reply channel 966.9 MHz. - transmitter power 400 W - range 50 km - co-located with KRM
1.c) trailer GAZ-704with a pair of power units AB-2-T/230M1
2.a) 2 sets of GRM-5 (descending radio beacon/ ( Глисадный Радио Маяк = Glide Path beacon) with antenna system (so called. "O" - zone on the mast ) - worked on the frequency 939,6 - 966,9 MHz - transmitter power 8 W - range 18 km - located 200-500 m from the VPD threshold and 150 m (left/right) from the VPD axis
2.b) trailer GAZ-704 with a pair of AB-2-T/230M1 power units.
--- It was a reliable system, but its operating frequencies interfered with the so-called TV band. Furthermore, the PRMG was not compatible with the ILS. Therefore, its use in the Czechoslovak Air Force/AČR was abandoned.
