25 mm Type 96 Anti-Aircraft Automatic Gun cal 1-in / 九六式二十五粍高角機銃
(25 mm/60 Model 1936)
The design of this automatic gun is based on the French Hotchkiss automatic gun. It was the most widely used anti-aircraft weapon in the Japanese Navy - about 33,000 were produced. It was considered superior in Japan, but lagged behind Allied guns of similar calibre. In addition, it had small magazines (for only 15 shots), which caused frequent stoppages in firing to change them. By the end of the war, it was apparent that it had a small caliber and short range (range) to effectively fight fast and heavy American aircraft.
