The boat consisted of nine steel pontoons that were joined together with steel bolts. The design allowed for a very small draft. It reached its place of operation in parts by boat and was assembled there. On April 1, 1910, she began active service under the name "Otter". Until the beginning of WWI he operated on the Yangtze River. After the outbreak of the war he was interned by the Chinese authorities and on 20.3.1917, after China's entry into the war against Germany, he was seized. She served in the Chinese Navy under the name Li-chen until 1932, when she was scrapped.
