The Mansyu (Nakajima) Ki-116 was the last variant of the Nakajima Ki-84 Army Type 4 fighter to reach the prototype stage. It was originally the fourth Mansyu-built Ki-84-I, and adapted to take a smaller and lighter Mitsubishi Ha-112-II engine, the same engine as used in the Kawasaki Ki-100, driving a three-blade popeller borrowed from a Mitsubishi Ki-46-III Dinah. This conversion proved to be very successful, and a reduction of 1,000 lb in empty weight being registered. A single prototype was produced, and was undergoing tests at the end of the war. The plane was longer and had an increased tail surface area as compared to the original Ki-84.

Manchu (Nakajima) Ki-116

History:
Factory Manshu Hikoki Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha in mandžuském Chabrinu built into the end of the war 94 aircraft Nakajima Ki-84, during that license production is faced with a lack of powerful engines Nakajima Ha-45-21. This shortage led the management of the factory to issue the instruction before a hard reset by the design team to implement a major design modifications - the installation of a lighter, but also less powerful engine Mitsubishi Ha-112-II, this engine was a 1,500 hp at take-off which was about 500 horsepower less than the engine of the original. For the transmission performance of this engine then enough i trojlistá the propeller used for the exploratory Mitsubishi Ki-46-III. The performances, of course, declined, but still at a usable rate and relieving the aircraft reportedly increased dexterity and maneuverability of the aircraft. Built and flew was one of the prototype.
