Decommissioned and damaged tanks Pz.Kpfw.III were used as ammunition vehicles. Some sources indicate the creation of 110 pieces of such modified machines.
According to a report from AOK 9 on 11 July 1943, a trio of Pz.Kpfw.III ammunition schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653 was received by schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653.
A report dated 31.5.1944 states that there are seven operational schwere Panzer-Abteilung 505 ammunition tanks Pz.Kpfw. III.
The serial numbers are also listed: Fgst.Nr.66037 (Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. H), Fgst.Nr. 68203, 68613 and 72806 (Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf. J), Fgst.Nr.75421, 76120 and 76228 (Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. M). According to the photographs, the vehicles appear to have had the vehicle number markings 1-7 on the front body armour, rear hull armour and on the schürzen. The schürzen can be seen to have holes cut in the schürzen, presumably to facilitate the feeding of rounds.
