For Operation Seelowe, the landing in Great Britain, 48 Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.D/Ausf.E were modified into a special submersible version.


The modifications consisted in sealing the places where water would penetrate into the tank interior (visors, turret wing, etc.).
The air supply and the exhaust gas extraction were solved with rubber hoses. The tank draught was around 12m (safety margin + 3m).


As Operation Seelowe never took place the tanks were assigned to the 18th PzDiv. and were used when the attack on the Soviet Union began. They were used in the crossing of the Bug River. The machines fought within this tank.division as standard tanks. The division fought on the central section of the eastern front.
