History
Based on the experience of the fighting of the First World War, there were several modifications of the G98 rifle shortly after its end. The new weapon, the same dimensions as G98 and very similar Radfahrer Gewehru, was introduced in 1923 into the armament of the German Reichswehr as " Karabiner 98b". In contrast to the G98, the new rifle had a downward-curved breech handle with the appropriate recess in the stock for the handle bullet and a carrying strap attached to the left. The visor was also new, which was adjustable on the K98b in the range from 100 to 2000 meters.
From the carbine K98a it can be recognized at first sight mainly by the absence of a hook for building weapons in goats, by a standard fly without a protector and by the absence of a hole in the front root of the trigger guard.

Construction
The Mauser K98b rifle is a repeating weapon with a revolving retractable breech. The ammunition is stored in a two-row, fixed ammunition box, situated in front of the trigger guard. The box is filled from above with a charging tape.

The main parts of the rifle are: Barrel with sights, breech case, breech, ammunition box and stock.

The barrel with a length of 740 mm is equipped with four clockwise grooves, with a constant pitch of 240 mm. The base of the visor is also soldered on the main.

The barrel is screwed at the back into the barrel case, which connects all the basic parts of the weapon into one unit. The breech also moves in the breech housing. In the rear part of the breech housing there is a so-called bridge, in the front side of which cutouts are milled for attaching the charging tape. On the left side of the bridge, a spring-loaded bolt holder is fastened with a screw, which thus forms the rear stop of the bolt.

The closure consists of a bolt, puller, puller ring, firing pin, drum spring, firing pin nut, closures, pin spring shutters and fuses.
There are three locking teeth in the bolt ( two at the front and one at the back) and a straight bolt handle protrudes from it to the right. At the head of the bolt is a hole for the firing pin. There is a rotary extractor on the right side of the bolt.
A drum spring is threaded on the firing pin and a firing pin nut is attached to its rear end, which has a firing pin nut in the lower part, which has a bar with a bevel in the lower part, which corresponds to the screw surface in the bolt cutout. When the bolt is turned to the left, the firing pin nut is pushed back and the drum spring is tensioned. At the bottom of the firing pin nut bar, there are two teeth that are used to catch the trigger lever tooth.

The individual parts of the closure are connected by a closure. It contains a lock and a pin, which ensures the correct position of the shutter relative to the bolt and also prevents rotation of the unlocked bolt. The aileron safety device has three positions - unlocked on the left, locked at the top and in the position of the safety aileron on the right it is secured and, in addition, the movement of the bolt is blocked.

The trigger assembly, located in the breech housing, consists of a trigger with a pin, a trigger spring and a trigger lever with a pin. The spring pushes the trigger lever up, where it catches the firing pin nut with its tooth. Pressing the trigger lowers the rear of the trigger lever, disengages the tooth, and loosens the firing pin nut. When the trigger pressure is released, the trigger lever returns to its original position.

The cartridge case, the body of which is integral with the trigger guard, is bolted to the breech housing with two screws from below. The bottom of the box is attached to the body by a spring pin. A folded flat spring is inserted in the bottom of the box, which pushes the cartridge feeder upwards. The cartridges are stored in the box in a checkerboard pattern in two rows.

The stock and buttstock are made of solid walnut or beech wood; exceptionally, the stock was made of another type of solid wood. The breech case is attached to the stock by means of two through bolts, which also connect the case to the cartridge case. The barrel is attached to the stock by means of two main sleeves, while the bayonet catch protrudes from the front. The recoil of the shot is transmitted to the stock by means of a square pivot bed located under the ammunition chamber.
In the head of the stock there is an opening for threading the carrying belt and behind it there is a bed for disassembling the breech. The rear part of the stock is protected against damage by a steel shoe.
