History:
The logical development of a successful fighter, such as Goshiki-sen, was the effort to achieve good altitude characteristics, so that it could be deployed against altitude bombers B-29, which was respectfully called Bí-San in Japan.
The way to get good altitude properties was an engine supercharged by a turbocharger. To increase engine power for a short time, a mixture of water and methanol was injected into the intake. Engine power Ha-112-II Ru up to a height of about 7,000 m corresponded type Ha-112-II, but at higher altitudes more efficient turbocharging Ru-102. The aircraft thus gained in performance and at the operating altitude of the B-29 (approximately 10,000 m) reached maximum speed and still climbed well.
Rikugun Koku Hombu planned to produce 120-140 aircraft a month, but everything was more of a wish, the turbocharger worked at 20-25000 rpm (it was 1945!) And in Japan, due to the blockade, there was no material that could withstand large centrifugation power and high exhaust temperatures, so Japanese turbochargers were not reliable.
