The course of military service:
20.6.1914 joined the army as a private to 125. the infantry regiment.
9.9.1914 wounded, spent several months in the hospital.
After recovery he served on the eastern front, 1. st. ended the war in the rank of lieutenant commander.
After the war he served in the Reichswehru, was a company commander infantry regiment, later served in staff positions.
From 1.3.1937 chief of staff of the IX. army corps.
From November 1937 to August 1938, the commander 100. the mountain regiment.
From 15.2.1940 chief of staff of the XVIII. army corps.
From 25.10.1940 to 1.1.1942 commander 1. the mountain division.
17.12.1942 transferred to the "führer's advances"

The post-war period:
In 1947 he was in the Nuremberg trial sentenced to 12 years in prison for the massacre in Kefalonia and for the murders of hostages in the Balkans.
