history / History
The unit was formed in January 1916 at the airport Point Cook near Melbourne in Australia. In mid-march launched a move to Egypt, where they arrived about a month later. After arming and the end of the training was in June declared political prisoners and to engage operations against the Turkish (ottoman) and the German units in the area of the Middle east. Its tasks were mainly reconnaissance and bombing flights and supporting ground units such as the management of artillery fire. Between the 12. September, 1916, and 6. February 1918 it was renamed the 67. (australian) squadron RFC, but also in official documents retain the original name. With the end of the war returned to Australia, where she was 5. march 1919 disbanded.
With the emergence of separate RAAF in 1921 was scheduled to also restore 1. squadron. At the beginning of the year 1922 was "on paper" restored, but after a few months it was these plans cancelled.
Truly restored was 1. July 1925, again at the base of the Point Cook near Melbourne as a "mixed" unit armed as fighters, so bombardovacími and reconnaissance aircraft.
