One of the best novels I've ever read. The author conveys his memories of World War I through the character of Svejk-a comic character who is officially declared a moron. The novel is divided into 4 parts viz:

Anyone interested in World War I and especially the events on the Eastern Front in 1914/1915 should have read this work. I personally recommend it to everyone. It is a work that is second to none.

Certainly a pretty good book with perhaps the best Czech literary character (well some may argue about Jara Cimrman 
)

Tak oni američané jedna z kolébek a šiřitelů demokracie zakázali Švejka???? (to že u nich je třeba problém dostat se k Mein kampfu aj. chápu, ale amíci musej vše přehánět
)A propós nevíte do kolika jazyků (s kolika možných ) byl Švejk přeložen ... rozhodně vím o maďarštině - měl jsem možnost vydět
