Ferret

Daimler Ferret

Reconnaissance vehicle developed as a replacement for the Daimler Dingo used during World War II. Specifications for the new vehicle were issued by the British Ministry of Defence in 1947.

The following year the contract was awarded to Daimler with its Ferret vehicle. A prototype was produced in 1949 and, after military trials, serial production began in 1950 and ran until 1971. A total of 4,409 vehicles of all versions were produced.

The driver of the vehicle sits in the front of the hull, the commander in the rear of the vehicle. On the left side of the hull a spare wheel is attached, on the opposite side there is an emergency exit. The Ferret is not equipped with night vision and filter ventilation systems.

Fotografie vozidel řady FV7xx:
FV701 Ferret Mk.1 (bezvěžová varianta)
FV701 Ferret Mk.2 (varianta s věžičkou z OT FV603 Saracen)
FV703 Ferret Mk.2/6 (varianta s věžičkou ze Saracenu, vybavená dvojicí OZ PTŘS Vigilant
FV704 Ferret Mk.1/2 (trojmístná varianta s nízkou, neotočnou věží)
FV711 Ferret Mk.4 (v zásadě FV701 Mk.2 s upraveným podvozkem, koly většího průměru a gumotextilní bariérou pro překonávání vodní překážky plavbou) - "předobraz" vozidla FOX

Laughing

An ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle) version of the FV701 Ferret was also considered as one of the possible variants of the FV701 Ferret.
The project has not progressed beyond the stage of a test prototype - although curiously, the vehicle carries full markings.
