The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) has purchased two Patria AMV XP wheeled armoured personnel carriers for military trials. Two other companies have also supplied their vehicles for the tests. After the trials are completed, the Japanese Army will announce which vehicle it has decided on.

After rigorous testing, the Finns have won a competition with Japanese industrial colossus Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will acquire Finnish Patria AMV XP wheeled armoured personnel carriers.
