The final and most mass produced version. The version had a heavily modified track section of the chassis, where a pair of running wheels were added to each side. The frame was significantly altered, the distance between the front axle and the drive wheel of the track section of the chassis was reduced. The front steer axle tyres were enlarged to 9.75x20. The engine was slightly modified by adding a gearbox housing (Maybach HL 62 TU vs. Maybach HL 62 TUK). The engine received a new cylinder head and shorter pistons so that low octane OZ 74 gasoline could be burned. The running gears of the second row and the tensioner wheel also underwent changes, which had different perforations. Various modifications were introduced over the years of production. For example, in 1939 the vehicles were equipped with lights for moving in a column (Notek). In 1942, the handrails were removed to facilitate crew boarding and were replaced by openings in the sides of the superstructure. A frame sidewall/basket was added over the rear of the superstructure. In 1942, a coolant preheater began to be mounted under the boarding bridge behind the right front fender. As of 3/1943, the mounting of turn signals, side lights, brake lights, and vehicle assembly company emblems (mounted on the radiator grille) was discontinued. In order to save on the material needed for production, the depth of the fenders above the belts was reduced and later the door protecting the spare wheel at the rear of the vehicle was eliminated. In 1943, assembly of the simplified bodywork (rear section) began.

By the end of 1943, the need to conserve steel was even more acute, and so four design proposals using wood instead of steel were created.
The first design was to retain the sheet metal construction of the first row of driver's seats (Sd.Kfz.7 Metallfahrerhaus mit Holzpritsche). Behind it, a wooden hull with wooden sidewalls was mounted. In the front half of the hull a place for cargo (material, ammunition...) was created, in the other half the crew was carried. On the dividing wall of the cargo compartment there were rifle holders (12 holders in total). The rest of the hull was divided by a wall, which was actually a backrest for a pair of crew seats. The men sitting on the front bench were facing the direction of travel, the men sitting on the rear bench had their backs to the direction of travel. The first such vehicle was built by the Saurer company in 11/1943. Krauss-Maffei began production of such an emergency arrangement in 2/1944, Borgward in 3/1944.
The next modification already included the driver's cab, which in the final emergency modification was also made of wood. Three shapes of the driver's cab sidewall are known (rounded, large knocked corner and small knocked corner).
