Modernization of self-propelled cannon howitzer vz. 77 DANA with the aim of extending the life cycle and increase its combat capabilities. Compared to the original type is characterized by a higher accuracy shooting, better controllability of the vehicle and the reliability of operation. Means comes from the modernization of the DANA-M1 CZ.


Modernization has touched mainly the following areas:
- fire control system
- modernization of the chassis
- upgraded ammo (remote charge DN1CZ)


The original chassis was upgraded to the a variant of the Tatra 815 VP31M 30 265 8x8.1R, which is characterized by:
– modified engine Tatra T3-930-52M with a single turbocharger and the intercooler of compressed air
– gearbox Tatra 10TS 130 with semi-automatic shifting of the Tatra–Norgren
– power steering ZF with a circle for the towing of the vehicle without the operation of the engine
– redesigned hydraulic circuit to control hydraulic props and special bodies


The howitzer has a new armoured cab, which, together with the workplace in the tower has:
- independent heating Eberspächer V7S on the performance of 12 kW
- dependent air conditioning Molpir on the performance of 8 kW
- independent air conditioning Molpir about výkou 3.5 kW


Among the basic changes compared to the older upgraded version of the DANA-M1 CZ include:
– upgrading of control cabinets electro-hydraulic system weapons
– new cables, the pivot enabling the transmission of data and video signals
– increase the flow of the hydraulic circuit and the change of control of the supports to reduce the time of readiness weapons
– increase the performance of heating and air conditioning


Among the optional parts of the equipment include a newly these elements mainly from the israeli company Elbit Systems:
– auxiliary power unit with a power of 7.5 kW (Elbit)
– communication systems and command system (Elbit)
– camera night vision driver (Elbit)
– parking camera (Molpir)
– electronic inclinometer (RayService)
– fire control system (Elbit ?)


- Remote charge DN1CZ is primarily intended for weapon systems vz. 77 DANA and the DANA-M1M (respectively, DANA-M1 CZ) without the need for adjustments to the system for automatic charging. This is a split hub consisting of a projectile 152 mm OFdDV (HE ER BB) and nábojkou P740 and intended for the destruction of live forces, the firing means of the enemy, trenches, barriers, light combat equipment, buildings, observatories, etc. at a distance of up to 25 500 m..

Self-propelled cannon howitzers DANA-M1M from the armament of the Azerbaijani army during the transfer to a military exercise, which took place from 18 to 22 September 2017. The howitzers were together with rocket launchers RM-70M1 delivered to Azerbaijan in 2017 and 2018. Both weapon systems were supplemented by Israeli electronics from the local company Elbit Systems, which officially figured as their final supplier. According to published information, in 2016 and 2017, Czech state institutions rejected Azerbaijan's requests for the supply of rocket launchers and self-propelled howitzers and informed the relevant European Union bodies of their action. The Slovak company MSM Group supplied the weapons to Israel, which, like EXCALIBUR ARMY, belongs to the CZECHOSLOVAK GROUP. Howitzers and rocket launchers were transported by air from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to Israel, from where they continued on their way to Azerbaijan after a short stopover to meet formal requirements.

On 10 May 2023, DANA-M1M howitzers of the Azerbaijani army move into firing positions from which they were to fire along with other artillery equipment of the Azerbaijani army on the following day at approximately 6.00 a.m. on the Armenian army positions near the village of Sotk. Four Armenian soldiers were reportedly wounded during the shelling. Azerbaijan stated that the reason for its provocation was an alleged armed action by Armenian forces in which one Azerbaijani soldier was allegedly killed.
