The Syrian Arab Air Force lost another Mil Mi-25 helicopter to IS. The machine was flown by a Russian crew, who had been asked to support ground troops fighting IS forces who had broken through the front line. The machine was supposed to start returning to base after firing all its ammunition, but was hit by IS fighters and its wreckage landed near Palmyra. Both Russian pilots were killed.

Information is starting to differ, allegedly it could also be a type of Mil Mi-35M, whereby the machine would belong to the Russian air force. Some sources even deny the shoot-down and speculate about a technical glitch.
