A U.S. Navy aerobatic group (USN) Blue Angels lost a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet after the aircraft struck high tension wires and crashed into a field near Smyrna/Rutherford Airport (KMQY), Smyrna, Tennessee. The pilot, Captain Jeff Kuss, did not survive. Recently, the US Navy lost two F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft after they collided with each other. On the same day, a F-16C of another US Air Force aerobatic group, the Thunderbirds, had an accident, and the pilot escaped unharmed.
