The original Russian edition of the original with the name – The walls Leningrada, author Joseph Josifovič Piljušin, Moscow, publishing house Vojenizdat, 1958.

The pages of this publication in detail mention the personal memories of the soviet war veteran – known snipers of the Red army Joseph Josifoviče Piljušina, who took part in the fighting in the then Leningrad (in the summer of 1991 was the city returned to its former official title of Sankt-Peterburg, Russian federation). He's managed to very impressively and practically a documentary to portray the events on the frontline of the eastern front 2. world war ii, which was opened 22. June 1941 and, specifically, on its section in severely needy, German troops besieged the second largest city of the Soviet union.
The actual siege of the city lasted from 8. September 1941 until 27. in January 1944, and was one of the key battles of the so-called Great patriotic war. It was one of the longest defensive military operations of the city throughout the period 2. world war.
Joseph. J. Piljušin initially fought in the state 105. rifle regiment, later in the 14. rifle regiment referred to in condition 21. division units of the NKVD of the USSR and its fighting anabasis ended in a state 602. fusiliers, 109. the division of the troops of the NKVD of the USSR.
The main task of the units of the NKVD was the implementation of the protection and defense prvosledových units of the Red army. Most numerous units of this structure was the border troops, but an integral part of the units have been specializing in the detection of spies, diversantů, but also you could say a cruel way to have come to terms with desertions and plundering of the civilian population, which made the soldiers of the Red army.
During the siege of Leningrad killed his wife and two sons. Piljušin declared that it will retaliate, if he has the strength. In 1942 he was severely wounded and lost his right eye, but after his release from the military hospital you have mastered shooting from the left shoulder and continued his service in the army. In 1944 he was repeatedly severely injured, which resulted in his partial blindness, which was of understandable reason discharged from the army. In the fifties the years his blindness has increased to 75 %.
The statistics is not accurate, and some sources reported that on his account he scored a 112, or even 136 people shot dead soldiers of the adversary.
For his combat merits was gradually awarded the Order of the red banner, Order of the red star, Medals "For courage" and the Medal For defense of Leningrad. Outside it was decorated and made an honorary Badge "the Master of sports of the USSR".
He died 2. march 1979.
Piljušinův a collection of memories originated in the period shortly after the war, i.e. in the period of the then communist regime and party propaganda, which for obvious reasons was also reflected in his work. This is, inter alia, mentions in his introductory word at the beginning of the book translator from Russian language into English. He also notes that some inaccuracies and embellishments featured in the original Russian text either altered, or is a straight cut. For consideration is whether this problem couldn't deal in the form of it, expressed disagreement, or clarification either in the text or in a footnote or another form in the notes to the book. Veteránovo remembering trying to be as authentic in her literary portrayal of the turmoil of war on the front line and describes the struggle and tactics of the soviet sniper.
Probably the most successful sniper 2. world war ii became Mikhail Ilyich Surkov, who shot and killed 702 soldiers of the adversary. The most successful German snipers belonged to Josef Allerberger with 257 shot by soviet troops. He fought together with the most successful German sniper Matthäusem Hetzenauerem in 3. the mountain division of the Wehrmacht.
The most famous, however, became Vasily Grigorjevič Zaitsev fighting at Stalingrad, which was probably on account of his 242 shot opponents, of which i 11 snipers. Zaitsev was even decorated with the Gold star of the Hero of the USSR. Among the general public is known also thanks to the american war film "Enemy at the gates".
Repeated release of Piljušinova the works of industry of memoirs – the first edition was released in an incredible cargo of 30 000 copies, testifies to the great interest of the readers of memoárovou literature of the period 2. world war ii, which is by them abundantly as well. In the Russian federation this book with the original filename re-published by Jauza, Eksmo, Moscow in 2009.
The suggestive narrative of a soldier sure to impress even the contemporary Czech readers, which is presented in the form of a very successful translation Czech translator Lubomír Sedlák, who has done a very good and robust translation of the English mutation of the books with the name of the Red Sniper on the Eastern Front: The Memoirs of Joseph Pilyushin, which was published by Pen Sword Books Limited, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, in 2010.into Czech.
