In the air force, the U.S. marine corps used the shape of Fighting, while in the air force, the shape of the Fighter. They're both right. It was the same with the word Bomber/Bombing.

The word Pursuit has the same meaning as the Fighter. Both means fighter. This language change occurred at the u.s. army air force at the beginning of the 40. years 20. century.

Word fighter may not apply only to air units. During the second world war existed within the SS called the fighter units (e.g. fighter sections - Jagdkommandos), whose task was to fight against the guerrillas..
