Pz.Kpfw.-Turm IV

The only mention of the use of turrets from the tank Pz.Kpfw. IV is the repair of two turrets with a short 7.5 cm L/24 gun and a MG 34 machine gun at the Heereszeugamt in Vienna in 5/1944. There is a known image of such a turret placed on a test bunker located at the Hillersleben test centre. According to the source, the turrets were not Pz.Kpfw. IV used on any front. Nevertheless, there was a design for a turret with a 7.5 cm L/48 gun, the Bauform 250 bunker mount, developed for the turret.

Another use was damaged tanks Pz.Kpfw. IV of various modifications, which were mounted in permanent firing positions. These were probably only whole vehicles and hulls, not the turrets themselves. The only photos I know of show this position in Berlin, which belonged to the Panzer-Kompanie Berlin assembly.

I came across new information about the use of Pz.Kpfw.IV turrets in southern France. From a report Fest- Stamm-Abteilung AOK 19 on the numbers of anti-tank fortifications on 1 August 1944 in the various sectors of the infantry divisions. Whether this is the use of buried tanks or the use of turrets lapped on bucklers is questionable.

Often in connection with the use of tank turrets appears Atlantic wall, unfortunately I never on this fortification with similar things before. A certain number of towers of light tanks I found on the coastal fortifications of Denmark (it was a PzII and Pz 38) but on the Atlantic wall, therefore, in France , Belgium, Holland and Germany, it was usually about concrete objects. I do not exclude that similar things used but pretty, I wonder where appear this assertion, I'm afraid that the reality was probably rather different, immobile machines PzIV and Panther were used (apparently in a small number of) while defending in Italy and Germany, but rather as the local points of defense on the constructed lines of defense. Similar claims about the use of the pobřežníhc lines may often appear, but so far I haven't come across their confirmation (neither an object nor a picture)..

That's my point, I often come across similar statements, but it's not mentioned in the literature on forts and I haven't come across it on forts either. Personally, I think it is one of the legends traditional in "tank" literature. (Bunkerologists, on the other hand, usually claim that the shelling was conducted with an 88, although the calibre of the shells is obviously different Smile ) It was this that led me to write the previous post and to point out the obvious discrepancies in legends and reality.
