Biskupin

Settlement of the people of the culture of the lusatian urnfield culture (KLPP), of the iron age around the mid-1. millennium bce. n. l. Located about 90 km northeast of Poznań.
In 1934 he began to search J. Kostrzewski, after 2. world war ii then continued From. Rajewski. The settlement is located on about 2 hectares of the great promontory of the lake. Its shores have been protected by the breakwaters of several thousand stakes, which were vbity to the bottom of the lake. The fort was surrounded by 3 meters wide and about 6 m high wall, which was built from 3 rows of chambers from the oak trunks, which were filled with soil. Entrance was allowed to the gate, which from both sides of the defined columns, you probably could carry a steeple construction. To this gate led about 120 meters long bridge that connected the island with the mainland. Internal development has been regular, and was found about 105 houses. It was found 11 transverse streets, which were reinforced with oak, pine, břízovými and jelšovými strains. All of these paths have been joined by way of a circular that made the rounds in the inner circumference of the wall. The space behind the gate was nezastavený.
All the houses were approximately the same large should the area around 90 m2, living room had a wooden floor made of planks, in the middle was a stone fireplace, at whose side was a bed. The living room was adjacent small hallway, whose function was most likely economic. The walls of the houses were made of stakes, the next floor had the character of the soil, on her led stair carved into the wood. In the houses were found the stone žernovy, documents, casting of metals, products of antlers, etc. With regard to the good conditions, it was found a number of objects from organic substances, especially wood. Among others, it was a wooden hoe, hoes from deer antlers, full of wagon wheel, wooden doors, oars, fragments of various domestic tools, etc. Were also found the remains of plants and it's around 140 wild but also cultivated plants. The bones belonged to a wild, but also domestic animals and also fish. It can be inferred a rich diet, consisting of farmed cattle, lovenou wildlife, fisheries and agricultural plant products. Estimates of the amount of wood needed to build Biskupina are around 6 to 8 thousand m3. After about 40 years of existence occurred the first destruction of the fort, then was again restored, apparently in the same dispositions, to then there was maybe more than 80 years.
