06.10.2014 - 70. výročí vstupu československých vojsk do vlasti na Dukle

Today is the 70th anniversary of the entry of Czechoslovak troops into the homeland at Dukla on 6 October 1944.




It happened during the Carpatho-Dukla operation, which involved 16,700 soldiers of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps. On one side were the armies of the USSR and the Czechoslovakia, on the other the Third Reich and Hungary.
The liberation of the homeland during this opreration cost the lives of 935 of our soldiers, 4518 were wounded and 756 were missing.
The troops of the Soviet Union suffered losses of 10,060 dead, 41,387 wounded, 1,806 missing and 13,548 sick.
The troops of the Third Reich and Hungary suffered losses of about 10,491 dead soldiers, 1,878 missing and 14 captured.

935 dead? In the colonnade of the memorial of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps at Dukla there are 1265 names of members of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps in the USSR who died during the operation (of which more than 500 are directly buried there). Honour their memory.

as far as I know, Jirka Fidler mentioned that the numbers of the fallen went through gradual adjustments and development, as many managed to trace and refine later. It is possible that this is the reason.
