On Wednesday, 29.1.2014 was on the Internet, officially launched the european virtual archive "Europeana 1914 - 1918" dedicated to the First world war. Informed about the Berlin state library (Berliner Staatsbibliothek), which is the coordinator of the project.
In search of the "exhibits" for this network database associates the libraries and archives 8 of the european states to digitise more than half a million of resources and exhibits from that period.
The result of their search and the work is a collection of personal documents, diaries, letters, cartoons, paintings and photographs and movies which are bound up with the First world war.
7 to 8 thousand objects were made available from personal and family archives. In addition, it is available on the portal function, with the help of which everyone can upload to the archive corresponding to the material and its collections and exhibits to share with others.
Now virtual archive contains:
- 400 000 documents of the ten national libraries and two other partners from eight countries
- 660 hours of film material from 21 european film archives
- 90 000 personal documents, memories and other materials of people from 12 countries.
