The museum showcases the military history of the Turkish republic and the Ottoman empire. From the extensive collection of over 55,000 objects is exposed to less than a tenth. The building of the museum was originally the ottoman military academy, which he graduated from, inter alia, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Located near Taksim square in the street of Cumhuriyet, about 500m from the metro stations Taksim or Osmanbey.
The exposition is thematically divided into different rooms according to the period. Separate rooms are dedicated to important milestones in the history of Turkey, such as the battle of Gallipoli, the war for independence or the genocide of the Armenians (who are, however, being portrayed as a bunch of evil thieves who attacked the good Turks). The museum's own extensive collection of steel themselves, and arms and armour of the period 15.-19.century, which occurred on the territory of the then Ottoman empire, which includes exhibits from Europe, north Africa or Persia.
It is worth noting 350mm cannon Krupp placed in front of the entrance to the museum. Legend has it that this cannon has played an important role in the defense of dardanelského strait in the battle of Gallipoli. After being destroyed the winch used for reloading, a soldier named Seyyid carried 276 kg of heavy projectiles to the gun itself on his back..
