When listing submachine guns manufactured in the USA between 1935-45, this submachine gun, often known under many names but most often referred to as UD M42, is often forgotten. It was developed just before WWII in 1939 with the commercial intention of promoting a 9 mm caliber weapon by Marlin for the United Defense Supply Corporation. The purpose of the weapon was originally for various underground groups in occupied Europe, but some of the weapons were delivered to the Dutch East Indies just before the Japanese invasion, where their trace is lost and nothing is known about their deployment. However, most weapons have found application in resistance groups, especially in the Mediterranean. Although it is a "commercial" weapon and not originally a military weapon, it is one of the best submachine guns used in WWII. However, the weapon was very demanding in terms of production and perhaps that is why it did not spread too much. The weapon was very carefully manufactured, it was very accurate and according to witnesses it "fit" perfectly in the hand. Despite its apparent fragility, it withstood poor conditions and worked dirty with dust or mud. According to some sources, the weapon produced only 15,000 pieces (I could not verify it), in any case it is a collector's rarity and a rare little-known weapon

The UD M42 submachine gun was also produced in the .45 ACP caliber.
Although, according to sources, most of them went to the Pacific and can be found for the Dutch colonies in our country as well. During the summer I work in the Military Museum Lichkov on a separate infantry cabin KS 32 "Na Růžku" ( www.forteg.cz - if it is an inadmissible advertisement of a foreign website, I apologize) and last year there was one visitor brought a torso of this submachine gun, which is evident from the attached photos. For a few sleepless nights, I wondered what it was.
