R-5M1p (Becva)
Armored mobile command post designed to ensure continuous command at the level of mechanized unit - volume. The liaison station is equipped with radio stations for communication with superiors and subordinate commanders. Vehicles of the R-5p Bečva series was created by rebuilding infantry fighting vehicles BVP-1, which means that the driving characteristics , maneuverability, terrain passability, buoyancy and shooting resistance are practically the same for both types.
The original ceiling of the hull BVP-1 was cut to a length of 2060 mm and increased by 500 mm. The elevated superstructure houses the crew hatch, turret, air intake, antenna joints and bushings. On the outside of the body there are other connection points, a power plant with a crane lift, independent heating, handles and boxes with accessories and engineering tools. The vehicle batteries are stored in the front. There are anti-slip sheets on the body ceiling.
The floor of the vehicle is adapted to store special-purpose batteries and seats. Inside the body there are welds for fixing the body parts. The position of the driver and the commander of the car is identical with BVP-1. The staff workplace is located in the front raised part of the superstructure. There is a desk, map board, magnetic board, a place to store documentation and staff aids. On the longer side of the work table, there are two seats of staff members equipped with seat belts. There is storage space between the seats. The workplace of radio operators in the rear part is separated from the staff space by a frame in which radio stations, a central control panel and other connecting means are located. The frame also includes a safe. There is a main fuel tank between the radio operator's seats. Its upper surface is arranged as a work table.
The vehicle is equipped with 12 TNPO-170 observation devices (four at the driver's, two in the command tower, two on the right and left in the radio area and one in the rear door). For fire, a periscope TNPO-350B is mounted instead of the driver's central observation device. For self-defense of the vehicle is provided by a machine gun DŠKM caliber 12.7 mm with an elevation of -4 ° to + 75 °. The machine gun is designed to fight with air targets up to a height of 1500 m and ground targets at a distance of up to 2000 m.
The crew consisted of five people: commander, driver, gunner and two radio operators - signalmen.
The R-5p prototype was presented to the public for the first time at the IDET 93 trade fair. The R-5p vehicles were continuously modernized with the installation of new fasteners, creating variants for the R-5Mp and R-5M1p. The latest version introduced in the armament of the Army of the Czech Republic is the R-5M2p.Its internal equipment consists of (equipment of older variants is given below in the comparison table):
