FuMG 65 Würzburg Riese

Citace :

The Würzburg Riese radar was one of the most important radar instruments of the Reich's air defence. It was used for many purposes, but primarily to guide fighter aircraft.

As early as 1904, the Düsseldorf engineer Christian Hülsmeyer obtained a patent for an instrument capable of using electric waves to determine and determine the distance of moving metal objects. It was not until the 1930s that this idea could be turned into reality. After 1933, the first instruments for determining the position of naval and air targets began to operate almost simultaneously in the navy and air force. They saw their operational deployment during the military manoeuvres of 1937. These instruments could determine the position of aircraft up to 90 km away, but could not determine their altitude.

In contrast, the Würzburg, developed in 1936, could measure the height and distance of incoming aircraft. By the summer of 1940, the Luftwaffe had deployed 4,000 of these systems to control heavy flak fire. From the spring of 1942 onwards, they were deployed as a guidance device for fighter aircraft. The instruments used for this purpose were deployed in a circle 35 km in diameter, giving the Würzburg Riese twice the range of the early warning radar. 1 500 Würzburg Riese were built.

The Würzburg Riese in the photographs was based at Scheveningen and belonged to the early warning line built by the Luftwaffe along the Dutch border. The internal equipment of this radar was dismantled in 1945.

Two examples of W-R radar, or more precisely typical concrete foundations, can be found on the road between Nová Bystřice and Starý Město p. Landštejn. (A slight complication in their eventual exploration is the fact that they are located inside an actively used pasture with an electric fence.)
The question, however, is what they were part of. There is nothing significant preserved in the area (not counting the First Republic fortifications), and the "Luftnachrichten" database of facilities on lostplaces.de does not list anything in the area either. Information in this direction is welcome.
