PZA Loara
(PZA = Artillery Set)
Anti-aircraft main system designed to conduct combat operations against aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles with a flat flight path up to a speed of 500 m/s.
The development of Loara was started around 1994. Due to financial problems between 1995 and 1997, the project was suspended. Development work resumed in 1998. The prototype passed the military tests in 2001. At that time, it was assumed that by 2008 the Polish army would purchase up to 160 of these funds. The acquisition plans for 2003 to 2008 envisage the purchase of eight vehicles. The first serial copy was ceremoniously handed over to the 10th Brygada Kawaleria Pancernej on December 4, 2004.
The chassis of the vehicle is based on a medium tank T-72M1, which was manufactured in Poland (as well as in Czechoslovakia) under license. In the case of Loary, it is its modernized variant PT-91. In the middle of its elevated hull is a box-shaped tower, on the sides of which are externally mounted two cannons KDA caliber 35 mm. These Swiss cannons are manufactured under Polish license by the Huta Stalowa Wola plant. Their effective altitude range is 4,000 meters, long range 3,500 meters. The elevation ranges from -10 ° to + 85 °. Two types of ammunition manufactured in the Polish company ZM Mesko are intended for the cannon: sub-caliber FAPDS-T (Frangible Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot with Tracer) and training TP-T (Target Practice-Tracer). The carried ammunition supply is 460 rounds per barrel
The surveillance 3D radar, whose antenna is located on a raised platform at the rear of the tower, can capture targets up to 26 km away and flying at an altitude of 6 km. The radar can track up to 64 targets simultaneously. The shooting radar with the antenna located at the front of the tower is of the Ericsson Eagle Mk.2 type. The equipment also includes a KTVD-1 television camera, a DL-1 laser rangefinder and a Sagem Iris III thermal imaging camera.
