Al-Saud Sultan Salman Abdul-Aziz became the 173. an astronaut of the Country, when he graduated in 1985 years on the space shuttle the united states.

Prince Sultan Saimán Abdelazíz al-Saud is the nephew of saudi arabian king. He is a graduate of the University of Denver, USA. In the years 1982-1984 he was employed at the Ministry of information in Saudi Arabia, after he was briefly at the Saudi arabian olympic information committee with Los Angeles, in 1984 he became a member of the leadership of the saudi-arab television. The same year he was accepted into the team training of astronauts by NASA, underwent training, he graduated from the years and from team NASA in 1986, he left.


He participated in the mission of the fifth flight of the space shuttle Discovery in June 1985. The flight lasted 7 days, during the crew launched into Earth orbit three satellites: Morelos 1, Arabsat 1B, and Telstar 3. The Start was from the ramps 39 in Florida, cape Canaveral. Al-Saud had the task to image the Arabian peninsula with the aim to discover new deposits of oil and natural gas. The seven-member crew commanded by kpt. Daniel Brandenstein, further flew John Creighton Steven Nagel, John Fabian, Shannon Lucidová and French astronaut Patrick Baudry. The shuttle after the completed mission landed at Edwards in California.Al-Saud was after the flight time from muslim priests released the obligation to pray towards Mekkce.
