History:
The development of the Mitsubishi Ki-21 aircraft begins in 1936 when new specifications for the bomber were issued. Two prototypes were completed in December, differing in their dorsal gunnery (see sketch 1 and 2). In November 1937, series production began The engines are now Ha-5 Kai with higher power (965/1095 hp). The Ki-21-Ib Otsú version was armed with a 5x movable 7.7 mm machine gun - one was at the end of the fuselage in a remotely operated gunnery pod. 120 of this variant were produced and it also had self-locking fuel tanks. The last "one" version was the Ki-21-Ic, which had an additional side machine gun, a 500 litre additional tank in the bomb bay and external hangers for 4x 50 kg bombs. It was produced until the end of 1940.
Operational deployment: the very first Ki-21-I aircraft went into the Sentai arsenal in China one of which was the 60th Sentai, which received them first. Initially, it had no competition on this battlefield and good passive safety features included high speed. They also soon displaced the Fiat BR 20 on this battlefield, which did not suit the Japanese pilots.

A sketch of the Ki-21-Ib Otsú - to increase the defence capabilities are complemented by a further two machine guns vz.89 caliber 7.7 mm. Deployment:
1. bow
2. at the end of the greenhouse
3. in the glazing under the fuselage
4. in the fuselage in the side window at the level of the trailing edge of the wing
5. the remote-controlled turret at the end of the fuselage (handled by the shooter from the greenhouse) of the turret I saw in the photographs always covered and sealed, I do not know how many rounds had back the gun. (see the description of the gun).
