I am attaching an interesting article about the unconventional use of one L118 gun in Afghanistan.

Brief summary:
In January 2009, a single 105mm L118 cannon (split into two loads) was hand-delivered to a rocky peak dominating the landscape around the town of Musa Qaleh ( 32°27′58.46 "N 64°44′50.25 "E). A plain was cleared above for it and the gun was camouflaged.
It has since been used for direct fire into the surrounding area, being able to provide fire support to ground troops much faster and more accurately than in the conventional indirect fire mode. It has earned the nickname "Dragon" from the locals, partly due to its effects and partly due to the muzzle flashes.
