The new HMS Victory Preservation Trust was formed to maintain HMS Victory in Portsmouth Harbour. The Trust has received £25 million from the Goslin Foundation and a further £25 million from the UK Ministry of Defence to provide funds for the restoration and maintenance of this landmark, which is still listed as Royal Navy and is the flagship of the Second Lord Navy (in the future she is to become the flagship of the First Lord Navy, commander of the entire Royal Navy).
The £16 million contract was awarded last year to BAE, which is undertaking the largest refit of HMS Victoria since her triumphant return from the Battle of Trafalgar.
